MANUFACTURING FACILITY NETWORKING REFRESH
In 2019 I served double-duty as project manager and principle architect of a half-million dollar project to revitalize and replace the IT network infrastructure in one of our manufacturing facilities. The network equipment we replaced had served the facility faithfully for many years, but it could no longer keep up with the demands of a contemporary operation. In addition to new hardware and refreshed cabling, I developed the standard design used to logically structure and secure the network. The result is an IT infrastructure capable of meeting the current and future needs of the facility for many years to come.
CO-LOCATION DATA CENTER CORE REFRESH
A key project in 2016 and 2017 was the design, procurement, and deployment of a $2.5 million IT infrastructure data center core refresh including, but not limited to, a new Cisco network core at data centers and major remote facilities, new converged server and storage equipment for virtualization, refreshed Active Directory and Exchange environment, and necessary software license upgrades. This project provided the opportunity of building cybersecurity into the design as a core component of the infrastructure refresh, designing proper data and network segmentation zones, implementing data protection protocols, and driving cultural shifts among technology groups within the organization as part of the deployment.
DESIGNING IT FOR A GREEN-FIELD MANUFACTURING FACILITY
A key project in 2015 was the successful design, procurement, and deployment of $1 million IT infrastructure investment in the company's green field manufacturing facility being constructed in China. The project required complex coordination among multiple vendors and company staff located within and outside the country. Special requirements for cybersecurity design in the context of localized laws and regulations for the treatment and storage of shared intellectual property were developed as part of the project. Key technologies deployed included a data network secured by Cisco and Palo Alto technology, wireless and voice systems, hyper-converged server virtualization systems, Microsoft Active Directory and Office 365.
